Common Ground is a social experiment designed to bridge the gap between Republicans and Democrats through live, real-time chat discussions on complex topics. Our goal is to create a respectful space for healthy debate and mutual understanding.

How It Works

  1. Select Your Side: When you first visit the landing page, you choose whether you identify as a Republican or Democrat. This selection assigns you to a respective live chat room where you'll engage with users from the opposing viewpoint.
  2. Create Your Account: To fully participate, sign up using your email or Google account. Once registered, you can access your profile and track your discussion history and karma score.
  3. Set Your Preferences: Customize your experience by choosing your preferred language and notification settings. These settings help us pair you with users who share similar discussion styles.
  4. Select a Topic: Choose a topic from our regularly updated list or let the system pick one for you. Topics are carefully curated to spark thoughtful debate and are stored in our database for ongoing access.
  5. Join a Live Chat: Once you’re in a chat room, you'll be paired with one or more users from the opposing political side. Chats can be one-on-one or small group discussions (3-5 users) to ensure dynamic and balanced conversations.
  6. Engage in Real-Time: Participate in live discussions where your messages are immediately broadcast to all connected users. The platform uses AI-driven moderation to filter out hate speech and inappropriate content, maintaining a respectful environment.
  7. Earn and Track Karma: At the end of every conversation, users rate each other. Your feedback contributes to a karma score that not only reflects your engagement but also helps improve future matchmaking.
